At the start of the month Breakers gathered at a dance studio in Queens and a second one in Jersey City to witness the historic moment as Breaking made its debut on the Olympic stage together. The Wake and Break watch party which was a “Full Circle” and “Break for Love” collabo, took place at the Snipes/Ladies of Hip Hop studio in Queens and CUDA Culture organized their gathering at Caribbean Soul Dance studio in Jersey City. Big shout out to Tiffany and Bougie Cutie Boards who provided the Brunch set up for Wake and Break along with other contributions from attendees. There were cyphers, deep conversations, cheering and laughter as dancers bonded while experiencing this historic moment together in anticipation of who would earn the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. News channel 4 captured the excitement and the insights from some of the organizers and attendees at the Wake and Break watch party. Harold O’neal dropped his new album of original Breaking Tracks “Rule the World: Breaking at the Olympics” to celebrate its debut. The Album release party took place at NuBlu as Full Circle, Dynamic Rockers, Works and Process and Princess Lockeroo worked together to make the event a success. There was a panel discussion with speakers Jaze Art Remote, Harold O’neal, Rokafella and Gabriel Furman moderated by Kid Glyde on the topics of the origins of Harold’s music journey as well as his perspective about music production. The panelists shared their feelings about today’s Breaking tracks, how the music has changed to fit the changes in the contest platforms and how the music impacts the way the dancers move. It was a thought provoking and inspiring conversation which was followed by cyphers for All Styles Cypher battle. Full Circle dancers Ava, Frank, Future and Mantis performed with Rokafella at the 10th annual Boone Avenue Walls doubling as a Bronx beautification and arts festival.. Big shout out to our friend Shiro One and all the Writers who represent at the Boone Walls. Thank you to Silo and Wen for inviting Full Circle to dance and celebrate this year.
Staying connected with the Writers, Kwikstep and Rokafella worked once again with the organizers of the Graffiti Hall of Fame event to uplift the original Hip hop dance element and its local OGs and Young Gs. This year marked the 44th anniversary as they celebrated the renaming of 106th street and Park ave to Graffiti Hall of Fame Way. All the elements were in attendance and repping hard. There was an exhibition battle between Dynamic Rockers and mOD Squad Crews as well as cyphers, vendors, Local MC’s and DJs who performed including Grand Wizzard Theodore, Diamond D and of course all the incredible Writers who left their mark on this historic 44th annual Graffiti Hall of Fame walls and cubes. Shout to Sharif, Veronica and the team.. And mad respect to Part One, Skeme, Fabel, Mare Joey and even Martha Cooper who spoke about the humble beginnings of this gathering and the people who made it a rite of passage for all writers in NYC and around the world.
