Getting down in the Streets for Hip Hop’s 50th

On May 20th we marched in the New York City Dance Parade celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop Dance! We kicked off the parade with a performance and then led the procession of dancers down a new route with OG’s like Trixie, Zone, Fast feet Fontanez and Frank who joined us on the float along with DJ DpOne and KS360. The Vanguard flew in legacy dancer of Time Machine Squad- Rex Jay, repping for Puerto Rico and our Ohio Family Bboy / DJ Forrest Getem Gump! We also had MiMi On deck repping for SHIROKA!

Thank you to our collaborators Bgirl Herstory, 360 Flow Breaking, Hip Hop Education center, Swift Characters, CUDA Culture, Full Circle Souljahs HDEC Kwik2Rok and All the Ladies Say documentary! The 50th Hip Hop Anniversary Logo designed for this occasion was created by Dister, founder of I Love My HOOD! Thank you to @HDEC18 for doing the impossible in the rain! We appreciate all who participated with us, there were so many! Thank you to Greg miller, DJ, Janelle, Michelle Mendez and Sabrina for the assistance leading up to the parade and congratulations to the entire Dance Parade NYC team!

This year the United Hip Hop Vanguard sponsored CUDA culture’s annual Street fest Throwdown as part of the 45th annual Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo Filipino Holiday celebration. The event gathered a multi-generation exchange of dancers with competitions, live art and performances.

Congrats to the winners of the adult and kids battles and to Bgirls J-La Roc and Mantis who presented a poetry fusion breakin' piece. The Vanguard also will be supporting CUDA as they launch their educational project honoring the Breakin' pioneers from the 80’s and 90’s eras in Jersey City, Hudson County and later other areas of New Jersey.

The weekend of June 3rd, Hip Hop Vanguard members Rokafella, Kwikstep, House and Grand Wizard Theodore are flying out to Express your Skills in Puerto Rico to teach workshops, participate in a panel discussion, judge and DJ for the event.

Looking ahead as Summer draws closer, we are excited to support The Bboy Bgirl Summit in Los Angeles hosted by OG Asia One and at the end of July we will also collaborate on the Lords of the Land event in Cleveland Ohio hosted by 10k Movement.

Here is the video interview of the founders/ collaborators that aired on BronxNet TV as part of the Kwik2Rok Hop hop variety show https://youtu.be/FNNxmgdlW0U

Thank you to our National and International cultural leaders and the next generation carrying the legacy into the future.
